How Bayern Munich Could Line Up With Philippe Coutinho And Ivan Perisic

Bayern Munich have bolstered their squad with the addition of six new signings, including two 2018 Fifa World Cup winners, as they look to retain their Bundesliga crown. Here is how the German giants could line up this season.

Following Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery's departures at the end of last season, Bayern were short of wide options. The club was strongly linked with a move for Leroy Sane, but a serious injury sustained by the Manchester City winger put paid to any potential deal.

The 28-time Bundesliga champions have since signed Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan and Philippe Coutinho from FC Barcelona on loan deals, adding to the earlier arrivals of 2018 World Cup winning defenders Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez from VfB Stuttgart and Atletico Madrid, respectively.

Bayern have also signed Michael Cuisance and Jann-Fiete Arp, although the two youngsters are unlikely to feature extensively this season.

In Pavard and Hernandez, Bayern have strengthened their defensive options with a pair of versatile players capable of playing in multiple positions. Both Frenchmen are able to operate as central defenders, and may be called upon in that role following Mats Hummels' departure, but are also adept at right-back and left-back respectively.

Further upfield, Perisic's arrival adds extra depth out wide for Bayern, where the Croatia international will compete with Kingsley Coman and Alphonso Davies for a spot in the starting XI. Coutinho has also been known to occupy that space on the left, although it is likely the Brazilian will feature in a more central role for the Bavarians.

Manager Niko Kovac favours a 4-3-3 formation, but it is possible the Croatian tactician will revert to Bayern's traditional 4-2-3-1 shape in order to accommodate his new signings.
