Bayern Munich thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0 to clinch the DFL Super Cup title in Frankfurt on Sunday night, with Robert Lewandowski netting a hat-trick. Bayern were nearly on the back foot early on when David Abraham managed to elevate himself to a teasing cross from the right, but couldn't direct his header on target. Moments later, another promising spell from the Eagles saw Jonathan De Guzman nearly pouncing, but blasted his effort over the top on 15 minutes. The Bavarians took the lead against the run of play after Robert Lewandowski headed in from close range on 21 minutes, following a cross from Joshua Kimmich. Frankfurt searched for an early response but Sebastien Haller who set-up Mijat Gacinovic on the edge of the box failed to profit on 23 minutes. Just as a potential come back beckoned, Bayern made it two. The lethal Lewandowski positioned himself perfectly to head in his second of the evening. The Eagles showed a good response despite trailing. After earning a free-kick on the edge of the box, De Guzman hit it straight against a strong and tall Bayern wall on the stroke of halftime. Adi Hutter's charges were confident of staging a come back despite the uphill task. A superb save from Frederik Ronnow called him to tip Arjen Robben's goal-bound drive over the top in the second half. Bayern upped the ante further as Lewandowski capitalised on poor defending to complete his hat-trick on 54 minutes to become the top scorer in Super Cup history overtaking Wynton Rufer of Bremen. The visitors made their first change, bringing on Kingsley Coman for Arjen Robben on 58 minutes. Soon, the German champions made it four thanks to a close range finish from substitute Coman. Hutter made a double introduction in Ante Rebic and Danny Blum after 64 minutes of action, with Bayern making their second in Leon Goretzka for Thomas Muller. Rebic set-up a good chance for Danny Blum who forced a good save from Manuel Neuer after 74 minutes. Despite backing off slightly, Bayern soon made it five thanks to Thiago Alcantara, rumoured to be on his way to Real Madrid.
