A Fifa World Cup winner has questioned why Philippe Coutinho would leave FC Barcelona to join Bayern Munich on loan.

The Brazil international was unveiled to the media on Monday after completing a season-long loan to the Bavarians from the Catalan giants.
Coutinho struggled to replicate his Liverpool form in the colours of Barcelona, and was often subjected to boos from the Camp Nou faithful in the 2018/19 campaign.
Former Germany manager Berti Vogts, who won the World Cup as a player with Die Mannschaft in 1974, believes the Selecao star knows he would have been a benchwarmer had he stayed with the LaLiga champions this season, hence his decision to move to Germany.

"At first glance, the loan from Coutinho is a great signing for the Bundesliga," Vogts wrote in a column on t-online.de. "But I want to ask a question: Why is a 27-year-old leaving a world club like FC Barcelona? Because he has given up the hope to prevail there. "Maybe he's not a world star, but a player who – probably in the new season – would be a substitute for FC Barcelona."
