DFB Pokal
Result: Uerdingen 0-2 Borussia Dortmund
Date: 09 August 2019
Venue: Merkur Spiel-Arena
Second-half goals from Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer guided Borussia Dortmund to a 2-0 victory KFC Uerdingen in the DFB Pokal on Friday evening.
Dortmund coach Lucien Favre named a strong line-up, which included the likes of Marco Reus, Paco Alcacer, Jadon Sancho and new signing Thorgan Hazard in the attack.
The visitors' only real opening in the half arrived after 15 minutes after Mats Hummels saw his goal-bound header palmed away by the Uerdingen goalkeeper.
Unfortunately, that proved to be the only real opening for the Bundesliga giants who had as much as 80 percent of the possession in the stanza.
The deadlock was eventually broken five minutes in to the second half as Manuel Akanji's pass found Reus, who showed good control before firing home from close range.
The lead was doubled with 20 minutes remaining, with Paco Alcacer drilling home a free-kick into the top corner from just outside the box.
With the visitors comfortably leading, Sancho and Reus made way for Achraf Hakimi and Mario Gotze for the final 15 minutes of the second half.
In the end, Dortmund were able to see out the remaining stages of the half with relative ease to advance to the next round.
