Bundesliga Wrap: Borussia Dortmund off to winning start

Borussia Dortmund opened their Bundesliga campaign with a 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen at Signal-Iduna Park on Saturday evening.

Youssoufa Moukoko started upfront for Dortmund, who will be without new signing Sebastien Haller for next few months.

It was a fan-favourite who got the game's only goal for the home side, with Marco Reus opening his account for the campaign in the ninth minute.

Leverkusen also finished the game with 10 men after goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký was shown a straight red card in second-half stoppage time.

Freiburg laid down a marker for the new season with a 4-0 thrashing of Augsburg at the WWK Arena.

All four goals arrived in the second half, with Michael Gregoritsch, Vincenzo Grifo, Matthias Ginter and Ritsu Doan getting on the scoresheet.

Union Berlin opened the new season with a 3-1 win over Hertha Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Theoson Siebatcheu, Sheraldo Becker and Robin Knoche found the back of the net for the home side.

Dodi Lukebakio bagged a consolation for the visitors in the 85th minute.

Borussia Monchengladbach made a positive start to the season after coming from behind to defeat Hoffenheim 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Robert Skov got Hoffenheim off to a lively start with the opening goal in the 25th minute.

Ramy Bensebaini levelled matters just before the break, while Marcus Thuram and Nico Elvedi netted to steer Gladbach to victory in the second half.

Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen settled for a share of the spoils after playing to a 2-2 draw at the Volkswagen Arena.

Lukas Nmecha and Josuha Guilavogui netted for the home side, while Niclas Füllkrug and Leonardo Bittencourt were on target for Bremen.

Mainz got their campaign underway with a 2-1 victory away to Bochum on Saturday afternoon.

Karim Onisiwo bagged a brace for the visitors with a strike in each half, cancelling out Kevin Stoger's 29th minute strike for the hosts.
