Result: FC Cologne 1-4 Bayern Munich
Date: 16 February 2020
Venue: RheinEnergieStadion
Bayern Munich moved back to the top of the Bundesliga with a rampant 4-1 victory over FC Cologne on Sunday afternoon.
Hansi Flick showed up with just a single change from last week's goalless draw with RB Leipzig, as Kingsley Coman entered in place of Leon Goretzka.
Bayern waited just three minutes from kickoff to hit the front after Robert Lewandowski went one-on-one with Timo Horn before nestling the roof of the net.
Coman doubled their tally two minutes later as poor defending allowed the winger a touch in the area for a bottom-low finish.
The Bavarians showed no mercy on their hosts and within 12 minutes, it was three after Serge Gnabry brought down a corner from Joshua Kimmich to fire into the bottom corner.
An injury to Noah Katterbach a minute before the half-hour mark forced Cologne to a substitution as Florian Kainz slotted in for his teammate.
Horn denied the visitors a fourth on the stroke of halftime when he rushed off his line to thwart Gnabry a double.
Cologne thought to have found a lifeline through Jhon Cordoba, but the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) ruled an offside in the build-up.
Dominick Drexler found a clear chance to halve the tally following the 62nd minute, but Manuel Neuer's alertness denied the attacker.
This led Gnabry to his second and Bayern's fourth after the 66th minute as he obtained possession on the left to curl past Horn after beating three bodies.
Cologne came up with a response four minutes later after Mark Uth combined with a cross from Kainz to tap home.
The defending champions looked for a fifth despite their healthy cushion in the final minutes, but Lewandowski failed to bury Muller's through ball as the Bavarians reclaim top spot.
