Bayern Munich were in a rampant mood on Saturday afternoon, as the Bundesliga champions thumped Mainz 6-1 at the Allianz Arena.
New signings Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic were handed starts for the Bavarians, who were pushing for a second straight win.
However, it as Mainz who got off to the better start as Jean-Paul Boetius opened the scoring after just six minutes after being set up by Ronael Pierre-Gabriel.
The Bavarians were certainly shook by the early goal, but they managed to recover as World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard levelled matters on 35 minutes with a neat volley.
Niko Kovac's charges completed the turnaround on the stroke of halftime as David Alaba opened his account for the season with a stunning free-kick that sailed over the wall and into the bottom corner.
The Bavarians picked up from where they left off in the first, with Perisic grabbed his first goal for the club with a neat header after getting on the end of Pavard's cross.
It got better for the defending Bundesliga champions with 25 minutes left on the clock as Kingsley Coman got on the score-sheet with a neat finish following a corner from Joshua Kimmich.
There was time for a fifth goal, with Lewandowski grabbing his sixth of the campaign on 78 minutes after collecting a cross from Thomas Muller before finding the bottom corner.
Second-half substitute Alphonso Davies get in on the act two minutes later as Muller turned provider once again, this time picking out the Canadian for a close-range finish to round off an emphatic win.
