France Football Name World's Best Goalkeeper, David De Gea Only 7th

Two days before France Football will crown the winner of the 2017 Ballon d'Or, the French publication announced their World Goalkeeper of the Year, but somewhat surprisingly, David de Gea only appeared in seventh spot.

The French magazine, who split from their collaboraton with FIFA for the prestigious FIFA Ballon d'Or award last year and now once again hand out their own prize, asked five former goalkeepers to be their expert panel for the shot-stopper award.

Santiago Canizares, Lionel Leitzi, Sepp Maier, Mark Schwarzer and Francesco Toldo voted for Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer as world's best shot-stopper.

The Germany keeper received 30 voting points, more than double as many as second-placed Gianluigi Buffon, who received 13 points.

Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois completes the podium with nine points, followed by Tottenham Hotspur's Hugo Lloris and Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak, who both received seven points.

Real Madrid's Keylor Navas appears in sixth position with five points, one more than De Gea, who somewhat surprisingly only ranks in seventh with four points.

FC Barcelona's Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, with three points, and Inter Milan's Samir Handanovic, with two points, complete the ranking, as announced by France Football.
