Spanish giants FC Barcelona's manager has given his opinion on superstar Lionel Messi finishing fifth in the 2018 Ballon d'Or ranking.

The winner of the prize was announced in Paris on Monday night, with Luka Modric ending a decade of dominance from Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi.
While Ronaldo came second, the Argentine was fifth in the standings, something his manager Ernesto Valverde feels is bizarre.
"We congratulate Modric for winning the Ballon d'Or but Messi being in fifth place is absurd," the Spanish tactician said, according to the Daily Nation.
"I will not get into discussing the inconsistencies of the prize."

Messi won three trophies in 2018, as well as the Pichichi – awarded to the top goalscorer of a LaLiga season – and the European Golden Shoe.
