Football's world governing body collaborated with the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro) to get more than 24 000 professional players to vote for their peers.
The official 2017 World XI was announced during the FIFA awards gala on Monday, with Real Madrid dominating the line-up.
FIFPro announced, via their website, that 71 countries participated in the worldwide selection process in 2017, with each of them producing their own countrywide World XI filled with players nominated by professional footballers from that nation.
South African players were also asked to participate, and although the line-up has not been officially released, Soccer Laduma contacted FIFPro and received the local-based World XI.
The South African line-up and the official World XI do not differ too much, with only two players being substituted. Instead of former Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, Paris Saint-Germain's Thiago Silva was selected, while Chelsea's N'Golo Kante made the SA version instead of FC Barcelona's Andres Iniesta.

Only four players were selected in all 71 different versions of the World XI, namely Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
