The Portuguese gave a lengthy interview with France Football last week after collecting his fifth Ballon d'Or.
In the interview, he stated he is the best player in history of the game, but Maradona didn't seem to impressed with Ronaldo's self-evaluation.
"Ronaldo said he is the best ever? Tell him to stop talking nonsense," he told AS.
Back in Maradona's days the Ballon d'Or was only handed out to players from Europe. Only in 1995 France Football changed their rules and George Weah became the first non-European to lift the Golden Ball. Meanwhil, FIFA's World Footballer of the Year award – the predecessor of the current The Best Men's Player – was only inaugurated in 1991.
As a consequence the Argentine, similar to Brazil legend Pele, never received a Ballon d'Or for his exploits of the beautiful game.
"I would have more than Cristiano and Messi," Maradona insisted.
