Former FC Barcelona stars Dani Alves and Samuel Eto'o are seemingly unhappy with Lionel Messi's top three snub at FIFA's The Best awards.

Luka Modric ended Cristiano Ronaldo, who finished in second place, and his longstanding rival Lionel Messi's 10-year dominance of the award, while the Argentine was not even among the final three nominees and only ended up in fifth place.

Both Alves and Eto'o, who have played alongside Messi in the past, have since voiced their opinions about the Barca talisman being snubbed for the main award.

"It's unjust that Messi was not nominated for The Best," Alves said, as quoted by Sport.

"It's not just that they have only looked at what he has done with Argentina and not what he has done with Barcelona."

Eto'o echoed his ex-colleague's sentiment, insisting that Messi deserved the award.

"Leo, for us, will always be the best player in the world ever," the Cameroonian told FourFourTwo.

"The human beings have to choose and they chose those three players, who have done well this year too.

"But for people like me and others, it doesn't change the fact that Leo is the best player in the world ever."

Neither Messi nor Ronaldo attended the awards gala, with the Barcelona superstar citing "family problems" as the reason for his non-appearance, while the new Juventus man reportedly could not find time in his hectic schedule.
