Zamalek 'Quit' Egyptian League

Zamalek 'Quit' Egyptian League

Zamalek president Mortada Mansour

African giants Zamalek, who Mamelodi Sundowns defeated in the final of the CAF Champions League in October, have announced their intentions to quit the Egyptian top flight.

Eto'o: I Prefer This Star To Messi

Rivals Al Ahly beat Misr El-Maqassa 1-0 on Sunday to maintain their top spot in the Egyptian Premier League, but the controversial penalty that was awarded to the side has now been criticised by Zamalek president Mortada Mansour.

Mansour, who, in a separate incident, threatened to have his club quit the league in May this year, has lambasted the level of officiating once again, and has insisted that the African giants will not carry on playing in Egypt's top flight for the remainder of the campaign.

"We will not continue this Egyptian Premier League season," the club president said, according to KingFut.com.

"(Referee) Ibrahim Nour El-Dein is corrupt and I will not let him get away with it.

"(Egyptian Football Association president) Hany Abo Rida is not free to follow the league standards. I will not continue this Premier League season; officials are ruining it.

"I'm not joking this time, the whole board is against continuing this season. It's either we don't play the next match or I leave. I will not accept pressure from officials.

"When we have an FA that respects clubs and officials on a better level, only then will we continue the league."

Eto'o Warns Mourinho

Zamalek are currently 14 points behind league leaders Al Ahly, although they have four matches in hand.
