Wydad Senior Players ‘Make’ Major Rulani Plea To Management

Wydad Senior Players ‘Make’ Major Rulani Plea To Management

Wydad Athletic Club senior players are reportedly backing Rulani Mokwena to stay at the club.

Wydad Athletic Club stars have reportedly made a major plea to the club's chief amid rumours that Rulani Mokwena's position as head coach may be under threat.

Results have not begun going the Red Castle's way in recent weeks, and the Johannesburg native has seemingly been receiving a lot of backlash as a consequence of their recent winless run.

After going on a five-game winning streak in the Botola Pro Inwi earlier this year, the record Moroccan champions have now drawn four straight matches, relinquishing their foothold on the final qualification position for next season's CAF Champions League.

Following their latest stalemate against Ittihad Tangier, rumours emerged that club president Hicham Ait Menna was set to hold a crucial meeting with the 38-year-old to investigate why results have not gone according to plan in recent weeks.

According to Kooora, however, a few of the squad's senior players went to Ait Menna directly to advocate for Mokwena to stay for the remainder of the season as they vouched for the hard work he is putting in to prepare the team but attributed their recent run of draws to the team's inability to convert easy chances.

The same report claims that the Wydad board appreciated the players taking a stand for the manager and promised his continuation until the end of the season, but whether he will coach the side at the FIFA Club World Cup will be contingent on whether he successfully qualifies for African club football's premier competition next season.

It is believed that the players guaranteed that they would finish runners-up behind RS Berkane in the league and thus return to continental football for the 2025/26 campaign.
