On Tuesday afternoon, representatives from all of CAF's 54-member football associations congregated in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa for the institution's 46th Ordinary General Assembly.

Multiple topics were on the agenda as the president, Patrice Motsepe, led proceedings, highlight CAF's achievements, addressing various issues plaguing African football, and outlining new initiatives that will promote growth on the continent.

One of the items on the agenda was the removal of Article 18, Section 9 from the CAF Statues.

The rule stated that nobody over the age of 70 was allowed to run for the CAF presidency, and during the General Assembly's proceedings, after the member associations took a vote, the former Mamelodi Sundowns chairman confirmed that the amendment has been made official, and that the rule would no longer be in place.

Earlier in the week, it was reported that candidates who wish to run for the CAF presidency during the forthcoming elections, reported to be taking place in March 2025, will have until 12 November 2024 to throw their name into the hat.

It is rumoured that Motsepe will run for a second term, and is said to have received backing from five out of the six Zonal Unions.
