Following his good showing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, leading the Super Eagles to the competition's final, Jose Peseiro shocked many when he announced that he would not be extending his contract upon its expiry.
It leaves the west African giants without a head coach, but the Nigerian Football Federation will have time to pursue Peseiro's successor with no friendlies lined up for the upcoming international break.
Among those who could potentially succeed the 63-year-old is current Abha Club boss Mosimane. The 59-year-old has not been shy in expressing his adoration for the three-time African champions and was linked with the job prior to the commencement of the recent AFCON.
These links have resurfaced, and the former Al Ahly boss is one of three foreigners currently being assessed by the Nigerian football chiefs. Despite Mosimane currently coaching the Saudi Pro League, his contract in the Middle East expires at the end of the campaign, making him a viable candidate should they wish to appoint him.
According to Sports Brief, the most recent AFCON finalists are not only looking at the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns manager. Former France head coach Laurent Blanc and recently departed Algeria boss Djamel Belmadi are also linked with the vacant role.
