Al Ahly star Mohamed Sherif has sent a clear message to their CAF Champions League rivals bagging a brace on Saturday night.
Sherif netted twice in the first half as the Red Devils defeated Al Merrikh 3-2 to secure their first in Group A after a shaky start.
Al Ahly began their group phase with a draw and a loss to Mamelodi Sundowns last week, but last season's Champions League top scorer says they eager to defend their African title.
"It is a very important victory. I am always happy to score goals and help the team but winning the game is more important," Sherif said, as per the club's official website.
"It doesn't matter who score the goals but what matters most is winning matches. That is our identity."
"We created many chances and even in the difficult moments we stood together and fought to win the game. It is a very important win in our campaign to defend our title."
"Our fans have always been behind the team and we are doing our best to win titles and make them happy."
