Ex-Kenya international Elijah Onsika has given a word of advice to Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy ahead of the team's African Nations Championship campaign.

McCarthy took over as Kenya national team coach in March 2025 and picked up his first win earlier this month in an international friendly against Chad.
With a further two draws and a single defeat as Haramee Stars boss, Onsika admitted that the former Blackburn Rovers striker has improved the fortunes of the sideaccording to Pulse Sports Kenya.
"I watched them recently during the friendly matches against Chad. They have improved, and you could see even the passing of the ball, which has been a problem, has greatly improved, and their all-around defending was superb," Onsika was quoted as saying.
The former striker, however, revealed one area of the game where the ex-Cape Town City boss needs to improve within the team is the attack.
"What McCarthy needs to work on now is the striking force; we still don’t have someone who can finish those chances," Onsika said.
"We create a lot but don’t use them."
The ex-player referred to Kenya's 0-0 draw against Chad, which took place three days before the win, and said there was still a piece missing in the team, but claimed his country would make the showpiece final.

"We dominated Chad in the first friendly but came out with a 0-0 draw; that person to put the ball inside the net is still missing, and we need to fix that, but for me, I think Kenya will play in the final of 2024 CHAN," he concluded.
