The three-time African champions are on the hunt for a new national team manager after Finidi George recently left the post.
The ex-Nigeria star was officially appointed as the team's head coach in late April after initially taking the reins on an interim basis from Peseiro.
George was first in charge during the March international break, when the west African giants played against Ghana and Mali, and shortly before their most recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, he was given the job on a full-time basis.
However, those qualifiers did not go according to plan for the 53-year-old, with the Super Eagles drawing 1-1 with South Africa before losing to Benin 2-1.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) released a statement after the aforementioned defeat saying they plan on appointing a foreign technical director in order to assist George, but this led to him tendering his resignation.
The record AFCON finalists are now looking for a new head coach, and many names have been touted as potential appointments, including that of Peseiro, but according to OwnGoalNigeria, the Portuguese tactician has no intention of returning to the position he recently vacated.
The same report claims that this is because during his time in charge of the African powerhouse, there were officials within the NFF who demanded that he choose certain players.

It is claimed that another reason he refused to consider the role again is that he was frequently disrespected by NFF president Ibrahim Gusau.
