The Red Devils parted ways with the Spanish coach following the club's 2-0 defeat against league rivals Pyramids FC.
It was the final nail in the coffin for the ex-Orlando Pirates boss as he was relieved of his duties just three months after taking charge of the side.
Riveiro took charge of just seven games with the Red Giant, winning one game and losing just twice during that period.
According to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Red Abdel Aal revealed that the 44-time Egyptian Premier League champions made the right decision to let Riveiro go.
"Riveiro’s departure from Al Ahly was long overdue," the 60-year-old said. "Even though I was never fully convinced by his technical abilities, he was treated unfairly by the club’s board, who basically ‘handed him over’ to the fans to shift the blame for the defeats and poor results away from themselves," he said, According to Al-Youm.
While there is still speculation about who will succeed Riveiro, Abdel Aal identified Al Ahly Tripoli's Hossam El Badry to take charge of Al Ahly.
