Mokhtar Mokhtar played for the Red Devils between 1975 and 1984, and during that time was able to capture six Egyptian Premier League titles.

After his playing career ended, the Cairo native transitioned into football management, taking charge of teams such as El Masry and Ittihad Alexandria in Egypt's top division.

According to Ahly Online, the 71-year-old will now be calling time on his managerial career in order to allow fresher faces to oversee the various coaching jobs in the Egyptian topflight.

"My decision to retire from coaching is final, to give young coaches a chance. I will not back down from the decision," he said.

The ex-midfielder also addressed his former club and how some of its current stars are performing in the ongoing CAF Champions League final against Esperance Sportive de Tunis.

Mokhtar did not pull any punches, including when talking about Tau, of whom he claimed his current level is not what Ahly fans have grown accustomed to.

"Karim Fouad is the most suitable to lead the left front because of his technical readiness and the experience that the player possesses," he added.

"[Ahly manager] Marcel Koller did not prepare Karim El Debes for this match, and I am surprised that Al Ahly has not signed a replacement player for Ali Maaloul at the same level so far.

"Percy Tau's level has declined recently, and Wessam Abou Ali is the most suitable to lead Al Ahly's attack, as he possesses ferocity against the opponent's goal."
