Algerian international Youcef Belaïli was detained at Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris following an altercation on board an Air France Flight, according to Akhbar El-Yom.
The 33-year-old was travelling from New York to Paris, later connecting in Algeria, when he was detained upon disembarking the plane, which came following allegations of assault toward cabin crew members.
The public protector's office later lifted the custody order and said there was insufficient justification for any criminal charges.
The player's father reportedly said the dispute began when the crew insisted the Esperance star should wear his seatbelt.
"My son, Youcef, was wronged at Charles de Gaulle Airport… the French police humiliated him despite his status as an international footballer," the father said.
There were reported videos circulating on social media that showed police escorting Belaïli off the plane. Air France confirmed the incident and said they had called police upon landing due to Belaïlii's alleged inappropriate behaviour towards the crew.
