Seydou Doumbia netted Sporting Lisbon's opener against Olympiacos on Tuesday night, finding the back of the net after just two minutes.
Overall, the Ivory Coast striker has now scored 28 times in European competition – 19 in the Champions League (including qualifiers) and nine in the UEFA Europa League (including qualifiers, as well as its predecessor the UEFA Cup).
In the overall UEFA ranking, Doumbia sits in sixth place, two behind Bafana Bafana all-time record scorer Benni McCarthy, who netted 32 goals in European competition.
The South African's tally is bettered by only three players: George Weah – Africa's only FIFA World Player of the Year – scored 35 goals in European competition and sits in third place, while FC Barcelona legend Samuel Eto'o, with 48 strikes, and Africa's top goalscorer in Europe, Didier Drogba, with 50 goals, lead the ranking.
