The Egyptian giants claimed the trophy following a 3-2 aggregate victory over Wydad Casablanca after their 1-1 draw in Morocco on Sunday night.

A second-half strike from Mohamed Abdelmonem secured the triumph for the Red Devils as Marcel Koller became the first Swiss manager to win the tournament.

According to KingFut, CAF's decision to increase the prize money for the tournament means the club will earn a whopping $4 million (R74.8 million) for the victory, compared to the previous winnings of $2.5 million (R46.8 million).

Losing finalists Wydad will reportedly be paid $2 million (R37.4 million) for their respectable efforts, while losing semi-finalists Esperance and Mamelodi Sundowns will each take home $1.2 million (R22.4 million).

Ex-Downs forward Percy Tau was instrumental in his side's 2-1 first-leg win in Cairo, opening the scoring before half-time with a neat finish to help Al Ahly on their way.

Koller's team will now participate at the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, where they could earn between $1 million (R18.7 million) and $5 million (R93.6 million) based on their performance at the showpiece.
