Reports last week suggested that Pyramids FC of Egypt were in advanced negotiations with the 36-year-old, who is currently on the books of Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Egyptian side, whom Bafana Bafana talent Gift Links played for last season, are under the new ownership of Turki al-Sheikh and Record had claimed the wealthy Saudi Arabian wanted to lure Sweden star Ibrahimovic to Africa.

However, Pyramids' director of football, Ahmed Hassan, has now rubbished the rumours.

"This is absolutely baseless," he told Egyptian sports website KingFut.

"The source of all these rumors is fake news sites that broadcast fake news."

Pyramids recenlty appointed former AC Milan shotstopper Dida as goalkeeper coach and currently sit in second place in the Premier League, level on points with Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Ibrahimovic left United in March 2016, and has scored 16 goals in 21 MLS games so far this season. His contact with Galaxy only expires in 2020, so it remains to be seen whether or not he will stay with the MLS side for the full duration of his deal.
