We are one of the most, if not the most ambitious club in the country. Taking a look at the squad that we have, we are expected to win silverware. I feel that pound for pound we have the strongest squad in the league. So then, why have those big name players not come to the party?
It may have come down to complacency. We won the Absa Premiership trophy last season, and along with that confidence, we were expected to head into the new season with the attitude of knowing what to expect and do.
That was not the case, as in the early stages of the campaign, we lost ground while rivals Kaizer Chiefs ended off the first half of the season without losing a single game. I feel that we lost the title in the first stanza of the season already and having to play catch up yet again got the better of us.
As a fan, you would think that even at the slightest hint of a downfall, the big name players should drag the team to glory.
Making a comparison to Kaizer Chiefs in this regard, we find that their star men came to the fore and delivered when needed. One clear example was when about a week ago, Chiefs played the University of Pretoria.
When it seemed that more points were going to be dropped in a 0-0 stalemate, Siphiwe Tshabalala stepped up and scored a much needed goal from a free-kick, which could have been the injection they needed to push for one last victory. This worked, as in the next fixture, they were crowned champions.
Having said that, do you think our big name players just did not come to the party?
