It’s hard to believe that Kaizer Chiefs winger Mandla Masango was transfer listed at the beginning of the Premier Soccer League season. This came about after the trickster failed to cement his place in the Amakhosi starting XI following a string of lacklustre performances.
Since then, Masango turned things around at Naturena and became a household name. Bullet even earned himself a call up to the Bafana Bafana national team for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Masango went from being a bench warmer to a national star in the space of a few months, so what then could the rest of the Chiefs fringe players take from Masango’s situation?
Well for one, they could be patient and wait for their turn. It is not easy for a talented player to know what he is capable of showing and not being afforded the opportunity to do so.
However, talent means nothing if it’s not backed up by hard work. Determination and hard work is one of the most essential factors in a young footballer’s career. Look at Cristiano Ronaldo for one, he has become one of the greatest players in history and those around him are quick to always point out how much hard work he puts in.
With that said, there are many lessons the likes of Levy Mokgothu, Ovidy Karuru and Matthew Rusike could learn from Masango’s former misfortunes at the club.
Do you feel there is still hope for some of the bench warmers at Chiefs?
