With Kaizer Chiefs one step away from winning the Absa Premiership title, we as Mamelodi Sundowns fans can no doubt think about where it all went wrong for us.
Here are three reasons why we fell short in the title race this season.
Slow Start To The Season
The beginning of the league season saw Chiefs hit the ground running, while we struggled to get the points on the table. This made it hard for us in the latter stages of the season as we had to play catch up while juggling with many other cup competitions.
Alje Schut’s Injury
An early injury to captain Alje Schut meant that the back four had to be without their organiser and leader. Fellow defender Mario Booysen partnered up with Thabo Nthethe in the absence of Schut but never really adequately replaced the influential Dutchman. Without the team captain in the early stages of the season, we struggled even more trying to get out of the starting blocks.
Missed Chances & Blunt Attack Force
Coach Pitso Mosimane constantly spoke about trying to get the right combinations from his attackers in the first half of the season and this carried on deep into the campaign. It was only until the second half of the season, where we saw names like Khama Billiat, Anthony Laffor and Cuthbert Malajila gel - but by then, Chiefs were already in the driving seat.
What other factors do you think affected us the most in the title charge?
