Former Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar was relegated from the Premier League this season. Should he return to the PSL?
The midfielder left South Africa for the Netherlands in 2001, where he developed his game and spent five years before joining German giants Borussia Dortmund in 2006.
Pienaar later took his career to England permanently in 2008, where he has played since, but with Sunderland being relegated to the English Championship, it has been reported that the player could return to South Africa.
Is a move to Mzansi a good option for Pienaar?
At the start of the season, it was said that the player was in talks with the biggest clubs in the PSL, but a move at the time didn't materialise.
Despite his injury issues in recent years, Pienaar might see this as the perfect time to return to where it all started, as the league may have less demands on his body.
Pienaar would undoubtedly be welcomed back to South Africa with open arms, and be an asset to any team willing to pay his salary. The 35-year-old's experience could inspire many young talents in Mzansi too!
