With El Clasico fast approaching, the Fan Park decided to take a look at some of Real Madrid’s best ever players in the history of the fixture – not necessarily based on stats, but based on their importance to the team.
Here are Real Madrid’s top five players in the history of the affair:
Alfredo Di Stefano
The late-legend is on our list simply because of how effective he was for Los Blancos in the El Clasico. He scored a total of 18 goals in this particular fixture, but was recently over taken by Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi.
The Spanish forward was arguably the face of Real Madrid during his years at the Santiago Bernabéu, and his ability upfront was often the decider in the much anticipated fixture. He scored a total of 15 goals in El Clasicos before moving to Schalke towards the latter stages of his career.
The goalkeeper has always been an important player for Real Madrid. His Importance for Los Blancos is largely due to the fact that he’s a home-grown player, meaning that the Clasico means even more to him than a few others – it’s do or die!
The central defender has always been a rock in Real Madrid’s defence, but it’s in these clashes where we see him at his best. He shows no reluctance in the challenge and sweats commitment. If there’s a fight on the park, Ramos is the usually the first one to have his gloves on.
Many big-named stars have trouble performing in the massive games, but Ronaldo has never been that way. He shows up to the party in every Clasico, and on Sunday, he’s got the chance to jump to second on the list of all-time Clasico scorers.
Can you name any other players who you feel have been important for Real Madrid in El Clasico?
