Lorch's New Downs Dawn

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch had not seen much action under former coach Manqoba Mngqithi, but after the mentor's departure, the former Orlando Pirates star could enjoy a new lease of life.

Insiders close to the club have indicated how Lorch's prospects may soon improve. A Siya source added that the former Bafana Bafana midfielder has been training diligently and is eager for his opportunity, and with the arrival of coach Miguel Cardoso, there is hope for a fresh start.

The sources discussed how other players are also looking forward to opportunities under the new technical team.

"One of the players who could be breathing a sigh of relief is Thembinkosi (Lorch). I know he was a bit frustrated that he was not playing but with the new technical team in place it gives every player a chance to start on a clean slate. The coach will choose his own squad to start or even the 20 of the normal matchday and that's why Lorch is relieved that his chance will come now to prove himself," said the Siya source close to Sundowns.

"No, he was not injured. He recovered from that injury and that's why he played some games this season but I think he was not in the coach's plans. So, this is a relief to him (the departure of Mngqithi)," the source added.

A second insider noted how Lorch isn't the only one who might benefit from the technical shake-up at the Brazilians, as other players also felt excluded previously, which is a normal situation where players on the fringes of selection feel this way at any club.

"You remember about the egos in the dressing room? And that coach Manqoba was almost losing the dressing room? Yeah, there were a number of players who felt left out. It's true there is tough competition but at times there was just that unfair treatment (in their opinion) where the players felt they could be given the chance to play but they didn't," said the second insider.

"Now it's their chance. You could see some surprises in the playing squad here and there but they are all Sundowns players at the end of the day," the second source added.

31-year-old Lorch joined the Brazilians in January from rivals Orlando Pirates, having played a fair amount of games last season. This season, he has featured in a few matches without scoring.

Additionally, he has represented Bafana Bafana but not as much as he would have liked when compared to his promising talent.

Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.

As Sundowns transition under new leadership, Lorch and others in the squad hope for increased opportunities and a rejuvenated team spirit. With a fresh perspective and renewed motivation, the players are eager to demonstrate their talents and contribute to Cardoso's success moving forward.
