Why Arrows Could Avoid Charge After Arriving 2 Hours Late

Why Arrows Could Avoid Charge After Arriving 2 Hours Late

Golden Arrows celebrate a goal against Royal AM at Harry Gwala Stadium.

The Siya crew has been led to believe that Golden Arrows may avoid punishment from the Premier Soccer League after their late arrival for the Betway Premiership match against Royal AM on Tuesday night.

Abafana'besthende are understood to have been stuck in heavy traffic on their way to Pietermarizburg on Tuesday and got to the stadium significantly late. The match was scheduled to kick-off at 19h30, but ended up starting at 21h00 at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Despite the late arrival, they were able to register an impressive 3-2 win away from home, as they moved up to seventh place on the standings.

According to article 15.1 in the PSL handbook, "Member Club teams must be present in the dressing rooms at the match venue at least 70 minutes before the scheduled kick-off time and take the field at the time stipulated by the match commissioner".

Article 15.2 further states "where a match is not played because of the late or non-arrival of a Member Club team, or of both teams, the offending Member Club or Member Clubs will be charged with misconduct. In this regard impossibility of performance as a result of a vehicle breakdown, logistical problem, or that the Member Club team was unable to locate the match venue, will not be a defence to this charge".

According to information received by the Siya crew, Arrows left Durban on time, well before 16h00 and were expecting to get to the stadium by 18h00, but there was a truck accident which caused a serious backlog of traffic. The Siya crew understands that the match officials were affected by the traffic as well.

It's understood that there was an agreement between clubs and match officials for the game to start later than what was scheduled and Arrows are unlikely to be charged because "it was beyond everyone's control".
