The South African Premier Soccer League may not be up to the standards of the efficient German Bundesliga or the fast-paced English Premier League which attracts superstars.
However, there are a few clubs in the PSL who integrate European strains of football into their style of play. Today the Fan Park crew will take a look at some of the clubs in the PSL who play beautiful football.
Under coach Kostadin Papic this season, Rise and Shine have seen an immediate change in their style of play. A direct contrast to last season’s dull and bland football, the club now plays a brand of football similar to that of Barcelona’s tiki-taka style.
What makes the Brazilians unique in this regard is that they have their own football philosophy. Known as the ‘Shoe Shine and Piano’ Philosophy, Downs as we know, play magnificent carpet football, which ideally is a passing/possession brand of football.
Ajax Cape Town
The Urban Warriors gets a mention in this regard for their direct style of football. The Mother City outfit work hard to win the ball high up the pitch, putting pressure on defences with swift pressing off the ball and quick passing when in possession.
Coach Stuart Baxter has successfully infused a one-touch, European style of football into the Amakhosi way of playing. The combination of George Maluleka, George Lebese and Mandla Masango worked ever so well in this system as they thrilled spectators with the one-touch football in the final third of the pitch.
