Move On The Cards For Downs Midfielder

Move On The Cards For Downs Midfielder

Luvuyo Phewa of Cape Town Spurs celebrates goal with teammates.

The Siya crew understands that there is work being done behind the scenes to secure a move for a Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder.

Sundowns travelled to Austria without central midfielder Luvuyo Phewa, who was on loan to Cape Town Spurs last season. The midfielder joined Sundowns in 2020, but has been sent out on loan every season since then.

He has been on loan to Chippa United, University of Pretoria and Spurs and there is a good chance that he will be heading out of Chloorkop again in the coming campaign, though it's unclear at this stage if it's on loan or permanently.

Indications are that Spurs are open to having him on board for the coming season as they look to fight their way back to the topflight after getting relegated at the end of last season.

The 24-year-old, though, is understood to be open to joining another topflight club to keep playing at the highest level of South African football.

The former junior international has shown his quality whenever he has been sent out on loan, but has never been able to break into the team at Sundowns, with loads of competition in the middle of the park, with the likes of Teboho Mokoena, Marcelo Allende, Bathusi Aubass, Sipho Mbule and Lebohang Maboe currently featuring in that position at Chloorkop.

Sundowns have already parted ways with Bongani Zungu, Brian Onyango, Thabiso Kutumela, Nyiko Mobbie and Ricardo Goss, who is back at SuperSport United on a season long loan.
