According to a Le Monde report, it is believed that 56 people were killed following the tragic events in Guinea on Sunday, though that figure could rise to 100.

A local doctor, speaking anonymously, has said he expects the number to climb after the match between N'Zerekore and Labe.

Refereeing decisions reportedly led to a mass patch invasion from fans in attendance at the Stade du 3 Avril, before police used tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Many were killed and left wounded as supporters attempted to escape the chaos, with families reportedly waiting to identify their loved ones outside a N'Zerekore morgue on Monday.

There were also calls for answers regarding how the football match held the day before at the stadium in Guinea's second-largest city could have turned into a deadly trap for dozens, if not hundreds, of supporters.

The stadium was believed to be "packed to the rafters" as the two sides faced off for the General Mamadi Doumbouya trophy in a high-stakes encounter.
