Players In Their Thirties Chiefs Could Let Go Next Season

Kaizer Chiefs have been undergoing various changes in recent years, with their most notable being their willingness to release players over the age of 30. In light of this, who could be next?

Amakhosi management have come under criticism for the way they have dealt with player contracts, and it began last season when they let Tefu Mashamaite walk away for free.

He wasn't the only player in their thirties to have parted ways with the club last June, and, this year, Siboniso Gaxa, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Morgan Gould followed suit.

It seems Bobby Motaung has adopted the same philosophy AC Milan introduced a few years ago, by offering no more than a one-year extension to all players on the wrong side of the "big three zero". This hasn't always gone down well, resulting in many players leaving.

This then leaves many fans fearing what could happen to a large portion of their players next season, as many of the stalwarts of the team will be 30 or older.

Itumeleng Khune, whose contract details are unknown but is said to end in 2019, will turn 30 in June next year, while this year's star player Willard Katsande will be 31 by the time the 2016/17 campaign comes to a close.

Siphiwe Tshabalala is the oldest of the lot, and he could find his future in a compromised position. A number of factors that could pin to early signs of this is his dip in form, being stripped of the captaincy, and his decline in assists.

In the gallery above, we take a look at which players will be over 30 at the end of next season, and when their current contracts will expire. Have a look!

Do you think Chiefs will get rid of any of these over-30-year-olds in June 2017?
