Jose Mourinho and his Chelsea side may have raised the English Premier League trophy this weekend with three games to spare, but can he replicate this season’s form in next year’s campaign, or will he become another Manuel Pellegrini?
My opinion – Mourinho and Chelsea won’t be successful next season.
This year, we’ve seen Mourinho’s men dominate the league campaign, not by big-goal margins or with football that’s blown us away, but with clever tactics, and some more frustrating ones – like parking the bus.
Chelsea have often scraped through games this season, winning 1-0 here, and 2-1 there, and it’s these narrow margins that lead me to believe that the Blues won’t be as lucky next season, and win the title again.
Again, Chelsea won’t become a force in Europe, as they may make it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but competing with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich for the crown among others may be a step too far.
Before Chelsea’s 3-1 win against Leicester City last week, they went 13 league games without a winning two-goal margin or more, with their last convincing win coming against Swansea in January, where they won 5-0.
I believe that teams next season will go into games with a lot of confidence, because despite them winning the league convincingly, they haven’t got the fear factor of a Barcelona or a Manchester United of old.
Do you think Mourinho will fail next season at Chelsea?
