Although last season Liverpool came close to winning the Premier League title under their Irish manager, Brendan Rodgers, I feel that he’s never going to coach the Merseyside club to success – something that the fans haven’t tasted in England for years.
My opinion? Liverpool will never win any major trophy under Rodgers.
Now, when you think of all the top managers around in Europe, such as Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Louis van Gaal and Carlo Ancelotti, Rodgers is a name that doesn’t fall under that bracket, does he?
Yes, you may feel that Liverpool would never be able to have one of big-named managers, as they’re all too high-profile, but why not? They’re the second most successful club in England, and the most successful English club in Europe - having won five Champions League trophies!
Admittedly, it was a good surprise to see Liverpool do as well as they did last season, but then again, the team were carried by arguably one of the best strikers in the world, Luis Suarez, and after his departure to Barcelona, it’s clear to see just how much of a one-man-team they were.
With signings such as Joe Allen, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Fabio Borini, and an aging Kolo Toure over the last few years, it’s no wonder why the club haven’t become the force they once were – as all these players are average, inconsistent passengers – and let’s not even mention the signing of Mario Balotelli… you’ve seen the movie before.
Rodgers’ previous clubs that he’s managed: Watford, Reading and Swansea – have I made my point clear?
Liverpool need a hands-on manager... Someone who will come in and not be afraid to make changes to the team, under his own rules, with his own style.
Do you think that Rodgers should be sacked, or should he stay on as Liverpool manager?
