Euro Interest In Okon, Agent Denies January Move

SuperSport United youngster Ime Okon has been linked with an overseas transfer in January, but his agent Lance Davids has denied that a move is close.

Okon is tipped to be one of the best young players in South Africa and to follow in the footsteps of former teammate Shandre Campbell to Belgium in the next transfer window.

"No that's not true. There is nothing like that," Davids told the Siya crew, which suggests it may be early for a transfer to be reached by January.

However, Siya sources have indicated that a European move is on the cards for Okon at some point in future, as interest is increasing in the player. Soccer Laduma had previously linked the player with a move to the Netherlands.

Now, sources close to the club have added that a Belgian club has inquired about Okon.

"At the moment things are looking like everything will happen (in future). The interest from the Dutch club has been there for some time now and the Belgian one is a new one. It's the same club that signed Shandre Campbell. It's not a done deal yet but there could be something happening for Ime (Okon)," the Siya source stated, connecting the player to Club Brugge or Club NXT in Belgium alongside Campbell.

A second source stated that SuperSport are already preparing Bilal Baloyi to take over the position if Okon leaves.

"The team is getting ready for the eventuality of Ime (Okon) leaving and that's why you can see that Bilal (Baloyi) is playing alongside Thulani Hlatshwayo in other games as they prepare him for more games if Ime leaves. You know SuperSport United don't have problems exporting their youngsters to Europe and Okon could be next," the second source stated.

Soccer Laduma contacted SuperSport United's CEO Stan Matthews on the matter, but there was no response at the time of preparing this report.

As the January transfer window approaches, a potential move of Okon to Europe highlights the growing interest in United's young talents. With both Dutch and Belgian clubs showing interest, fans will be eager to see if the promising defender makes the leap to European football. Though, agent Davids knowledge of the situation would suggest that such a transfer is unlikely to happen this January.
