Names like Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Willard Katsande of Kaizer Chiefs, as well as Orlando Pirates' star man Oupa Manyisa have all grabbed the headlines this season with their standout performances. However, while playing alongside some of the best players in the league, there are some who don’t get the credit they deserve.
Today the Fan Park crew will take a look at some of the most underrated midfielders in the PSL at present.
Hlompho Kekana – Mamelodi Sundowns
As a hardman in midfield, Kekana is one of the best destroyers in the local game at the moment, with Katsande probably being just ahead of him in this regard. Sitting just in front of the back four, Kekana is a player who sniffs around looking to break up play and does this ever so well. However, he often falls away from the limelight, with names like Teko Modise and Khama Billiat stealing the spot.
Travis Graham – Ajax Cape Town
Graham has taken the captain's armband at Ikamva this season and this young warrior has proven to be one of the best young talents in the country. His hard work and grit in midfield often go unnoticed, however, there is no doubt that he is a player with tremendous ability.
Thamsanqa Sangweni – Chippa United
Dictating the play for Chippa United comes easily for the Bafana Bafana international, however, in a league filled with stars at the top clubs, Sangweni and the Chilli Boys are often overlooked.
Thandani Ntshumayelo – Orlando Pirates
A box-to-box fox terrier in midfield, the 24-year-old loves to get in amongst the tackles, however, it’s his work rate behind the likes of Oupa Manyisa and Mpho Makola that goes by unnoticed at times.
