Oupa Manyisa’s inconsistent form has been highly covered over the past few months, with many of us thinking that speculation surrounding a move to Mamelodi Sundowns in January was the cause.
Many of us were guilty of placing all the blame on him being emotionally and mentally unfocused, but his sudden rise in form over the past few fixtures has left us wondering if that was really the reason.
Yes, his mental state could have perhaps played a role in him hitting a bit of a slump, but in actual fact it was always going to come.
Manyisa is currently on a near unfathomable run of 87 matches for Orlando Pirates and Bafana in the space of 18 months, something which is nearly unheard of - even for European-based players.
His involvement in the CAF Champions League run with Pirates saw him barely miss a game at all that season, and the lack of preseason ahead of the 2013/14 campaign, provided him little time to rest ahead of another jam-packed season.
To average little over four games a month with next to no break available to him is bound to tire any player out, and his drop in form towards the end of 2014 could’ve largely contributed to this too.
Ace also didn’t have a break over Christmas, as he was on international duty with Bafana Bafana in Equatorial Guinea, and that long distance travelling in tough conditions would surely have taken its toll too.
Ghosts, it is lovely to see Manyisa slowly getting back to form. What do you make of this?
