Since retiring from football in 2023, former Egypt international and Premier League striker Mido has worked as a manager for multiple clubs and as a pundit on TV shows in his native country.

The 41-year-old is never shy to speak his mind, with his latest appearance on television another example of just how highly he reflects on his career.

Speaking on the On Time Stadium show, in quotes carried by Al Masry Al Youm, the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations champion claimed Egypt has not seen a striker like him in 30 years.

"Who is like Mido in Egypt? Has there been a striker like me in Egypt in the last 30 years?" he began.

"I am the best talent to emerge from the Zamalek youth sector in the last 30 years. Hossam Hassan, Emad Meteb and Amr Zaki are not like me. I am better than them.

"Who was able to play at the level I played at for many years? Who played as a starter with Zamalek when he was 16 years old? Who played with Egypt when he was 17 years old?

"As a footballer and in terms of capabilities, I am better than Mohamed Salah, but he outperformed me in terms of continuity because of his personality, and it is not right to compare me to any up-and-coming player."
