Mbulelo ‘Old-John' Mabizela once had the world at his feet, however, he never reached his full potential due to his off-the-pitch antics.
'OJ' began his career at Maritzburg City before being snatched by Orlando Pirates. After having barely played 10 games in the PSL, Mabizela received a national call-up.
The Pietermaritzburg-born star went on to become the youngest captain of the national team at the age of 21.
His impressive displays didn't go unnoticed as he soon found himself on the books of English Premiership side, Tottenham Hotspur.
The dreadlocked player's career at White Hart Lane got off to a perfect start, as Mabizela scored a scorcher on debut. However, his stay in England was short-lived due to ill discipline and OJ's next stop was Norway, where he played for Valerenga.
That stint in Norway didn't yield many positives results either, so the tough-tackling defender returned to South Africa and joined Mamelodi Sundowns.
At the Chloorkop-based side, allegations of over indulging surfaced and Mabizela was on the road again, this time to Platinum Stars. With no exorcism taking place, his demons kept coming back…
From Platinum Stars he joined Mpumalanga Black Aces where he recently had a fall out with head coach Clive Barker, and has since moved back to the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
AmaZulu have now given the nomadic player a chance to resuscitate his ailing career, and at the age of 34, is this Mabizela's last chance of reviving his career?
Do you think OJ will finally come right?
