Good morning Khosi fans! There has been tons of talk about the title race and how Chiefs are destined to win, despite the fact that there are 10 games remaining. However, if there is one lesson that Chiefs have learnt… it is that it isn't over until it is over.
Last season the Amakhosi were leading by a comfortable margin, but the title slipped out of their grasp after Mamelodi Sundowns went on a late unbeaten run.
This season, a similar story has been told. Chiefs went into the New Year with a 15-point margin and PSL coaches, particularly Gordon Igesund and Eric Tinkler, voiced their beliefs that the title was Chiefs'.
Amakhosi midfielder, Mandla, Masango, has since come out to disagree in Soccer Laduma’s issue 910, and I am inclined to agree with him.
There is no way that the title is already on its way to Naturena. A lot can happen in 10 games, all while our boys are having to compete in the Nedbank Cup and the CAF Champions League. Silly errors can slip in, fatigue may hit and maybe even some bad rotations could cost us…
While I am of no doubt that the squad is strong enough to win the title, we cannot be counting our chickens before they hatch. Like I said, if there is one thing Chiefs have learnt, it is this!
The likes of Tinkler and Igesund could very well be playing mind games with the media and the other clubs, because there is no way they will think the title is already signed, sealed and delivered.
Khosi fans, we should tread cautiously… Do you think the title chase is over already?
