History has shown that Kaizer Chiefs have always been blessed in their goalkeeping department. Up until this day, Amakhosi can boast some of the most talented shot-stoppers between the sticks.
Itumeleng Khune is regarded as one of Africa’s finest and has been at the peak of his powers for the last couple of years. This season, however, Khune faced an injury stricken campaign but can be thankful to his deputy goalkeepers for doing an outstanding job in replacing him.
Here’s how they fared in Itu’s absence.
Pieterse only made two starts throughout the campaign, with Brilliant Khuzwayo being ahead of him in the pecking order. In spite of this, Pieterse was on the winning end of both games and accredited himself one clean sheet for the season.
Khuzwayo had a stellar season as Khune’s under study, making the starting line-up on 15 occasions. When it came to clean sheets, Khuzwayo kept his net untouched nine times this season, one more clean sheet than Khune had done in 10 starts for the club.
Khune still showed his quality in the 10 starts he had made by only conceding two goals, with a win percentage of 80%, but his goalkeeping partners contributed immensely to the club’s league success this season.
