Kaizer Chiefs will no doubt feel the strain of their packed schedule in the coming weeks as they find themselves battling domestically and continentally.
In the last couple of days I have been pondering over the thought of how ready we really are for the CAF Champion’s League, and I feel that we may not be too prepared this season for it in terms of squad depth and quality.
So what could we have done in a bid to be better prepared for the CAF Champions League?
We Should Have Signed More African Players
At the very least, we could have signed players from the African continent who have CAF experience. It can only but help having two or three players in the squad who could mentor players who are playing in the Champions League for the very first time.
Have Two Sides
We could have even assigned players in the squad who would exclusively be used in the Champion’s League. This would be a tricky task to accomplish as it would be impossible to field two different teams in two different competitions simultaneously, but at the very least I feel that a strong core of 'CAF players' should have been utilised for the competition.
The conditions in Africa will also play a vital role in our progress in the competition and it remains to be seen how our local boys will do in the harsh and hostile African environments.
In conclusion, I feel that the above mentioned preparations would have put us in a much better mindset going into the competition. We need to feel that we can win it, not hope that we can win it.
