Winners – Barcelona
The Spanish giants were our biggest winners of the week, as their victory over rivals Real Madrid in El Clasico saw them go four points clear of Los Blancos at the top of the La Liga table. They went into the tie as favourites, but the game was always going to be a tight affair, with Barcelona marginally winning 2-1 at home.
Losers – Liverpool
The Merseyside club were at home to Manchester United on Sunday, and even though their recent run of league form made them favourites, things didn’t go to plan for Brendan Rodgers’ side. Liverpool lost 2-1 at home to the Red Devils, allowing their rivals to take the advantage in the race for a Champions League spot.
Topic Of Discussion – Gerrard’s Red Card
The Liverpool captain’s incident on the field was definitely the most talked about incident of the weekend. Steven Gerrard was set off just 38 seconds after replacing Adam Lallana. The former England international apologised for his stamp on Ander Herrera, saying he knows he let down everyone at the club, as well as the fans.
Who Said What? – Luis Suarez
The Uruguayan was perhaps rubbing his goal in the face of Real fans when he stated that his goal was the most important he’s scored for Barca. The Catalans moved four points clear in Liga thanks to the strike from the former Liverpool man.
“This is the most important goal I've scored for Barca and it has an extra significance because of the rival we were playing against.”
Player Who Needs Improving – Gareth Bale
The Real Madrid winger has been in remarkably poor form of late, and looks uncomfortably at the Spanish giants. He gave the ball away cheaply against Barcelona, and again he looked second fiddle to Cristiano Ronaldo.
