Did Chiefs Make A Mistake Letting Hlanti Go?

Kaizer Chiefs had made the significant decision to release certain players, including former Bafana Bafana defender Sifiso Hlanti.

This move has sparked a debate among fans and former players about the wisdom of letting go of experienced talent.

In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, former Amakhosi defender Mokete Tsotetsi weighed in on the club's decision.

Tsotetsi acknowledged Hlanti's past achievements but pointed out that his performance at Chiefs had not met expectations, which justified the club's decision.

"Hlanti is one of the big players. International. He played for Bafana Bafana. He has done very well. He did very well for Wits. He is a quality left footer. But you know with football he hasn't been at his best at Kaizer Chiefs to be honest," Tsotetsi told the Siya crew.

"And that doesn't mean he is not a good player. He is a quality player. They signed him because they knew he was quality but at the end of the day your current form is what determines your future. So, maybe the club saw that the injuries affected him and his performance and that's why they released him. At Chiefs he was not at his best," Tsotetsi observed.

Tsotetsi also reflected on the potential benefits of retaining Hlanti, considering his vast experience.

"His experience could have come in handy but as I have said, maybe they were looking at his injuries and they took the decision to let him go. But with his quality and experience he should have stayed. They should have kept him and see what happens after this coming season," Tsotetsi told Soccer Laduma.

This perspective highlights the complex decisions football clubs must make regarding player personnel, balancing past contributions with current performance and future potential.
