Last week, Thick Skull brought to light Oupa Manyisa's form, or lack thereof since his former midfield partner, Andile Jali, departed for greener pastures abroad.
Jali and Manyisa famously inspired Pirates' double treble winning campaigns, and today we look at other duos that endeared themselves to Mzansi football fans in the last decade.
Rudzani Ramudzuli & Mulondo Sikhwivhilu
Arguably the most famous striking duo in Lidoda Duvha's colours, the two strikers had a successful 2004/05 season with Black Leopards, registering 17 league goals between them.
Godfrey Sapula & Surprise Moriri
This midfield partnership was responsible for bringing Mamelodi Sundowns their first league title of the millennium in the 2006/07 season. They repeated the feat in the following season.
Gert Schalkwyk & David Mathebula
Although this duo inspired nothing in terms of league titles, they were the two players that stood out during Ernst Middendorp's largely unsuccessful tenure at Kaizer Chiefs. Their understanding was something quite special.
Teko Modise & Benson Mhlongo
Before Andile Jali & Oupa Manyisa took over the midfield mantle, Modise and Mhlongo were the two who bossed the PSL midfield combinations. Mhlongo was the solid defensive midfielder, allowing Teko to torment defenders further upfront.
Tefu Mashamaite & Eric Mathoho
Statistically the PSL's best defensive duo, the ‘Twin Towers’, as they've come to be known, have conceded only 11 goals in the 24 matches played so far in the current campaign.
Do you recall any other exciting partnerships in the PSL?
