The end of the season is gradually approaching and the run-in period for Mamelodi Sundowns is sure to be an exciting one. During this time, there is a call for the older and more experienced players in the team to step-up and lead the pack.
What about beyond this season, could there be indications suggesting that we are ready to oust some of the veterans in the squad?
Captain Alje Schut has already revealed that he will leave the club and return back home to the Netherlands at the end of the season. This could, however, spark a revolution of some sorts, with older players following suit.
There are many younger players being filtered through into the Downs first team. Names like Khama Billiat, Bongani Zungu, Themba Zwane and Kuda Mahachi have all been tipped to have bright futures at the club, and could well slowly replace some of the old legs.
Also, one could say it has been a gradual process for the club blooding in the younger players, as making it in a cut-throat environment such as Chloorkop is no easy task.
Nonetheless, we have seen less of players like Lebohang Mokoena, Elias Pelembe and Katlego Mashego, who may have once been extremely important to the team.
We have been doing rather well with such changes being made to this Sundowns outfit filled with talent, and one can only but imagine that the club aims to produce a young squad which could compete for years to come.
Do you think the club is preparing to let go of some of the older, big name players?
