The Citizens suffered a third straight loss after being beaten 4-1 by Portuguese giants Sporting CP on Tuesday night.

Sporting, led by incoming United boss Ruben Amorim, came from behind to become the first team to put four goal past Guardiola in Europe since Barcelona in 2016.

Speaking in a press conference after the game, the Spaniard could not help but take a small dig at the Red Devils after being asked about his future clashes with Amorim in England.

"We will face them two times in the Premier League and maybe the FA Cup," he said, according to Manchester Evening News

"In the Champions League it is not possible. We will see. I learn from all the managers I faced and Ruben as well.

"You have to understand my concern is focused not on the challenge of playing United, it's seeing what we can do to get back to their best."

Guardiola was then asked to discuss how he believes Amorim will fare at his Manchester rivals.

"I don't know. I don't know if he's going to be better than we are. We will have to wait," he replied.

"Welcome, of course. I'm happy to see him and wish him all the best but I don't know what's going to happen with Ruben in the next two, three, four years. Only Ruben can answer that."
